Missing teeth can cause a number of dental issues. When a tooth is missing, the jawbone will begin to degenerate, which can affect the structural appearance of the face. In addition, the missing tooth and jawbone deterioration can cause the remaining teeth to shift. Missing teeth also make it more difficult to eat and chew your food properly. Replacing missing teeth is vital to maintaining proper dental function and overall oral health.
What are my treatment options for missing teeth?
Fortunately, there are numerous options for replacing missing teeth. The treatment you choose is best decided between you and your dentist, which is based on your desired results, as well as your general oral health. The most popular treatment plans include the following:
Dental implant supported crowns
A dental implant is a small screw-like titanium post placed within the jaw to set as an artificial root. Then, the crown is placed on top to have the same functionality as a “real” tooth.
Dental bridges
Dental bridges cap the teeth on either side of the space where a missing tooth is, and the caps are attached to the replacement tooth/teeth. This bridge is cemented into place over the prepared teeth.
Removable and Implant Supports Dentures
Patients missing most or all of their natural teeth may be best suited for dentures. They give the appearance of having a full set of teeth.
I am so happy with the results! I should have done this 10 years ago.
